Discussion Time….

This weeks I’d like some input in the Challenges, do ya’ll think they are challenging? And what other types of challenges would you like to see that we hav’nt had yet? I have plenty of ideas but I would appreciate some input and ideas.

 See ya tomorrow..:-)

  1. I greatly enjoy the challenges, and spend the week thinking about it. This week’s of water tower made me scrap the bottom of the barrel, we don’t have water towers in Auckland.

  2. We look forward to them here at Northview Dairy and BuckinJunction and talk about what we will be trying to do all week. In fact I just finished driving up to the town water tower to get this week’s entry. Doing them has forced us to see things differently, think differently and stretch both as photographers and as people.
I think you folks have done a wonderful service here, starting something that is great fun and has generated a community that is growing by leaps and bounds. I truly hope you will continue!!

  3. Today while I was out doing my homework I thought a challenge of church steeples and bell towers might be a good one.

  4. You are doing great ED! I look at things differently week to week depending what the challenge is. I think searching for and becoming more aware of your surrounding is a good thing. I look at different kinds of light, the sky conditions..it all effects what I want to photograph, and when. There are some kick ass photographers out there, I enjoy seeing their work.. of course I always feel that I should learn more..having had no training what so ever. I am slowly learning by trial and error…sometimes lots of errors LOL. Ok maybe a suggestion now, How about a feeling..warmth is ..happiness is or something on that order:)

  5. unfortunately i’ve been “out of action” with sunday stills due to my stupid computer dieing, but all is well & i’m back in for this weeksn challenge :)
you’re challenges are always good ed & i’m with ann chin on “spend the week thinking about it”

what about a slow shutter challenge, something involving moving cars or something :)

  6. I am so new at this that every week is a big challenge! I’m enjoying looking for the different things and looking at things differently.

I tried and I am up for this week.

I think you are doing a great job, Ed. Something I thought of the other day while out looking around my yard was – textures – the bark of a tree, the weave of fabric(good macro). Just a suggestion. See ya.

  8. Hey, textures is a great idea. :)

  9. I would like to see Doors, Porches, Rocking Chairs, Community Art, Senior Citizens, Cars, Boats, Main Street in each town…I have a million ideas.

  10. seasons? details within the seasons? Old things, new things, blue things?

  11. Andea Baker Says:

How about “hands, Feet, Shoulder, Elbow, nose, chin or knee”

  12. Feelings is a great challenge and I think Texture would be wonderful too.

Ed I love SS it always makes me look at things with a different eye. You are doing a wonderful job.

  13. Just when I was ready to try this, my camera bit the dust. But I’m back in business now. This is all new to me and I’m having fun with it. I engaged my family to help with the water tower challenge as we were down to one day and I hadn’t completed my assignment yet. So it turned into a family thing which made it fun.

    Keep up the good work!

  14. I have a question that I’m curious about. A couple of commenters have asked if I’ve done any editing to my shots and while I have not, I was wondering if it was discouraged? Are you looking for straight out of the camera submissions or is editing “permissible”? Thanks.

  15. I think taking object and things that are unnoticed or considered ugly and unattractive ad reviving them through photography. But what those are…nothing comes to mind. Thanks for your hard work

  16. The challenges are varied and fun. I definately prefer the challenges that demand our own interpretation due to the wide scope, things like texture, a colour, a shape, a feeling, silouhettes, long exposure, night-time, motion, macro etc. For me, things like pylons, billboards, silos are somewhat geography- (even country-) specific, and so find myself struggling sometimes!

Another thanks for your continued efforts Ed.

  17. I’d like to see a challenge for the odd and unusual, because it will be different for every photographer. Also would still like to see one where the commenter is invited to caption the photo, so we could use photos that spark inrterest through expression, unusual placement of objects, etc.

  18. I look forward to these Sunday Stills challenges every week. I’ve signed up for a number of other challenges and aren’t as faithful to them, because they don’t challenge me as much…and the tend be too big and impersonal with loads of people doing them and most of the photos all look the same. I like how the SS are different each week, so please keep up the great ideas, Ed.

    Ideas from me:
1)Photos that tell a story….a storyboard through photos? Or photos with creative captions?

2)Photo shapes? for example: A triangle….the sail of a boat

3)Photos of your favorite beverage/s (arranged creatively)

4)Photos of Something Old or Something New?

    5)Photos of things with wings?

    6)Creative Monochromes?

    7)Posterize it! (using photo software)

    8)Photos of feet…any feet…animal or human.

9)Patterns in nature (feathers, fur, bark, sand, textiles, etc)

10)Photos of your dinner (creatively arranged) (LOL!)

Well there, you asked. Now you have no excuses, just in case you ever try to say, you’ve run out of ideas. hah! :-D

  19. How about summertime fun shots? You know watermelon eatin contest, ballon fights, creekin, etc.
Also what about abstract? Something slightly out of focus that makes you look at the colors and see something that isn’t what the subject really is?
Anyways that’s my ideas for now. But you do a great job every week!

  20. I also think about the challenge thru the week, as of the last 2 weeks challenges my camera died, but this week I was able to pull up images I already had that fit the challenge, That is fun too.

Perhaps a challenge could be some obsucure topic that can only be an image one already has in their archive, no new “for the challenge” shots allowed.

  21. How about moon pictures for the 40th anniversary of the Eagle at Tranquility Base. I don’t know what phase the moon is in right now.
